[English]

The collapse of reinforced concrete (RC) moment-resisting frames un-der seismic loading is generally closely associated with concentrated nonlinear deformation, crack propagation, concrete crushing and cyclic strength degradation in plastic hinge regions. This study was con-ducted to probabilistically evaluate the effect of localized steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) in plastic hinge regions on the collapse capacity of RC moment-resisting frames subjected to near-fault ground motions. For this purpose, special RC moment-resisting frames were modeled in three height configurations, three, six and nine stories and in two material configurations: conventional RC and RC incorporating SFRC. The SFRC material model was assigned to the plastic hinge regions at the ends of beams and columns. After checking the fundamental periods, capacity curves and plastic hinge development patterns, a set of 28 near-fault records comprising pulse-like and non-pulse-like ground motions was selected, and the models were subjected to incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) using these records. The results showed that localized SFRC increases the median collapse intensity and reduces collapse probability at a specified intensity measure. This improvement is mainly associated with a relative reduction in stiffness degradation, greater member rotational capacity, and increased energy dissipation in the SFRC plastic hinge regions. Accordingly, localized SFRC in plastic hinge regions can provide an effective approach to increasing the safety margin against collapse and improving the seismic performance of RC frames subjected to near-fault ground motions.
