The general layout of the water conveyance system of the Sardasht clay-core rockfill dam comprises a 4,031 m long headrace tunnel, a 147.7 m deep vertical shaft, and a 287 m long tail tunnel. Due to the high overburden (reaching approximately 600 m in some sections), the low quality and strength of low-grade metamorphic phyllitic rock masses, and the presence of sandstone interlayers (in some sections), investigating the squeezing potential along the Sardasht dam conveyance tunnel is of paramount importance. Consequently, in the first stage of this research, the squeezing hazard along the tunnel alignment was evaluated using empirical, semi-empirical, and analytical approaches. Subsequently, the creep parameters of the Burgers viscoplastic model were determined based on tunnel instrumentation data and back-analysis. Finally, numerical simulations and long-term analysis of the final lining over a 10-year service period were performed using FLAC2D software. The results indicate that the T3 zone represents the most critical squeezing condition due to the activity of the Zirmarg Fault. Furthermore, increasing the time interval between excavation, temporary support installation, and final lining construction leads to a non-linear reduction in axial force and bending moment. Specifically, these parameters decreased by 27% and 37.5% in the first stage, and by 14% and 7% in the second stage, respectively.
